Dentures & Partials

What are Dentures & Partials?

Full and partial dentures are helpful when it comes to replacing missing dentition within the mouth. Partial dentures clip onto surrounding teeth and are meant to replace only several teeth at a time. Full dentures are meant for patients who are missing an entire arch of teeth or who have severely advanced gum disease and need extractions performed. Both types of dentures are durable, realistic-looking and can last for about seven years before replacement is needed.

Why are Dentures & Partials needed?

Both full and partial dentures restore your smile as well as improve overall functionality. When you’re missing a lot of teeth or all of your teeth, you look older and your face and lips take on a sunken-in appearance. Likewise, it might be difficult for you to eat, chew and speak because of missing most of your smile. With quality dentures, you’ll feel more confident and will be able to tackle every part of your busy day.

Who is a candidate for Dentures & Partials?

Patients who are missing a lot of teeth but still have many healthy ones are often good candidates for partial dentures. If you have advanced gum disease or have a lot of broken, decayed or loose teeth, we may recommend removing the remaining teeth and placing a full denture. Full dentures are made to fit comfortably, and they’re custom-made to fit your mouth perfectly. If you need dentures, it’s important to consider having them made so that you are able to live your life normally.

What happens during the procedure for Dentures & Partials?

The procedure begins with impressions that are taken to create molds of your teeth and gums. The impressions are made according to your existing tooth color so that they match perfectly. Once the dentures are made, you’ll come back into the office for a fitting. We will adjust the way that the denture fits and feels so that it’s more comfortable for you to wear. You can wear your denture as often or as little as you want, and it’s important to clean them regularly to remove any plaque and odors.
