Wisdom Teeth Removal
What is Wisdom Teeth Removal?
The third molars (wisdom teeth) are often the last to develop and come in. If you don’t have enough room for these wisdom teeth to come in fully, they will become impacted and stuck underneath the gums. Over time, impacted wisdom teeth can become painful, uncomfortable and even problematic to your oral health. We offer wisdom tooth removal in our office for patients of all ages.
Why is Wisdom Teeth Removal needed?
The reason you may need or want to have your wisdom teeth removed is because they’re painful and are beginning to create other problems. If left untreated, they can even cause issues with overcrowding and damage to surrounding teeth. To prevent these problems from happening, we recommend removing the wisdom teeth as soon as possible. The procedure is a lot quicker and easier than you might think, and you’ll save yourself from years of pain, discomfort and possible other treatments.
Who is a good candidate for Wisdom Teeth Removal?
To determine if you need to have your wisdom teeth removed, we will perform an exam and take special x-rays. The x-rays allow us to see where the wisdom teeth are located and how they’re positioned underneath the gums. If you need to have your wisdom teeth removed, we recommend that you have the surgery done as soon as possible. There is no age restriction on when you can have your wisdom teeth removed, and it’s becoming more common for adults to come in for wisdom tooth-related consultations.
What happens during Wisdom Teeth Removal?
We begin the process by administering sedative of your choosing. We then create an incision through the gums and remove the underlying wisdom tooth. Sutures are immediately placed to close the gums and improve the way that they heal. The process is then repeated for any and all other wisdom teeth. You can expect some pain and swelling following the procedure. It is important to follow all aftercare instructions that we provide to you before going home.
