What is Adult’s Dentistry?
It’s common to forgo dental treatment, especially if you think everything relating to your teeth and gums is fine. Unfortunately, small problems can get bigger over time, eventually leading to gum disease and tooth loss. Decay (cavities) as well as gum disease are completely preventable and can be treated in their earlier stages. We offer comprehensive care for adult patients of all ages.
Why is Dentistry for Adults important?
Nearly half of all otherwise healthy adults over the age of 30 have gum disease. Many adults have missing teeth, crowns, bridge work and fillings that are all indicative of poor oral hygiene and dental care. By coming into the office regularly for checkups and treatment, we can keep your smile healthy, full and bright. Dentistry is no longer fear-inducing, especially with all of the amazing advancements to the technology that we use.
How often should Adults be coming into the office?
We recommend that all adult patients come into the office twice a year. This helps us to keep track of problems and monitor for any changes to your oral health. These checkup visits will include a cleaning and examination. Cleanings are especially critical at preventing tooth decay and gum disease because the hygienist will clear away tartar, which is hardened plaque that accumulates on different surfaces of the teeth.
What can be expected during a typical Adult appointment?
We will welcome you into our office and sit you comfortably in one of our examination or hygiene rooms. We will take safe dental x-rays before beginning a thorough cleaning. The cleaning helps to clear away hard-to-remove stains as well as tartar from the teeth. The gums are checked for signs of gum disease or gingivitis, and treatment options are provided to you. We then perform an exam to help in finding problems with decay and loose or broken restorations. We aim to make all of your appointments in our office comfortable, calm and informative.
